STRATFORD CC

I'd recommend the event to anyone who likes a bit of suffering!

I'd recommend the event to anyone who likes a bit of suffering!

The Club wish to congratulate  Carl Mathews for his amazing achievement in August in completing Paris-Brest-Paris. PBP is one of the oldest bicycle races dating back to 1891.

The race distance is a staggering 1,200 km and must be completed within 90 hours. Carl completed the event in 88hrs.

In order to qualify for the event which takes place every 4 years, Carl needed to complete various long distance rides this year of over 200km each month which would be a major achievement in itself.

Carl,  deserves a well earned rest and a pint or two

Carl said -“ I'd recommend the event to anyone who likes a bit of suffering. It was good to  represent SCC in what is a massive, once every 4 year event in the North West of France and many people shouted out for Stratford. Lots of Brits take part but to qualify for entry you have to complete a super Randoneur series over the first 5 months of the year. The SR series is a 200, 300, 400 and 600km BRM (Brevet Randonee Mondial) Audax.

Finally, many heartfelt thanks for all the support from club mates over the course of this year and during the event. Cycling is an amazing sport that gives and takes but mostly gives and I think brings out the best in people. Sincere thanks and look forward to seeing you all again down on Club Rides.”
