Stratford Juniors ride in National Cyclocross Series

Ruben & Scarlett rolling over the finish line

A tough day out for two Stratford Youth riders at the National Cyclocross series in Derby. A heavy, gloopy, sticky, slippery course with the Youth riders starting on an already churned up course with the seniors having ridden it the day before.

Scarlett had a bit of a nightmare (not Halloween related!), crashed on lap 1 and had to run 1/2 lap to the pits where Dad spent 2-3 mins fixing her saddle. After lots more running, sliding and even a bit of riding she finished on a very muddied bike. A fantastic effort with true grit shown riding a one-bike race.

Ruben, in his first National race, had a strategy of pitting twice each lap with Scarlett taking on jet washing duties. He rode strong and looked at home at this higher level and came in ahead of many of his main WMCCL rivals.

An awesome race and great experience following in the footsteps (pedal strokes ?) of previous Stratford riders and inspiring the next up & coming Juniors.

Honourable mentions go to our second claim riders: Lewis Tindsley (Beeston CC – 5th Juniors and overall series leader); Spencer Corder (ROTOR – 13th Junior) and Wayne Jones (ROTOR – Vets 50s).
